Yes, it’s Friday. Or as I like to call it, Slacker Friday. This is the day that workers everywhere spend more time thinking about the weekend, looking at the clock barely move and talking about anything but work.
Now what kind of person would I be if I didn’t lower productivity levels even further? With your silent confirmation, I can state with confidence that I am actually that type of person. So, in that the spirit of slack, I give you… [drum roll, please] …the best cartoons of the 1990s. Well, at least to me.
Funny Stuff
Action Stuff
For the nostalgic sap in all of us, I included cartoons that only aired in the 1990s and not the ones that are still on the air. Yes, we all know I’d love to include Family Guy and Ed, Edd n Eddy as well as many others.
Enjoy.

Most Americans will celebrate their independence in a calm and dignified manner by getting drunk and blowing themselves up. And tomorrow, I’ll probably be one of them.
Today, however, I’m still a designer (who should be working right now) waiting for the holiday to start. So, with all of my professional designer hub bub, I give you [drum roll, please]…
The Top 10 Worst July 4th Animations!
- Ketchup - “Fireworks illegal in your state? Don’t fret and don’t forget…about Ketchup, The new Fireworks”
- Go Boom! - Boy, this one takes on a whole new meaning in today’s world, doesn’t it?
- Backyard BBQ - “Steaks are almost done! That smell? Oh, that’s my hand. Heck ya, I’ll have another brew. Rock on.”
- Wet Blanket Abe - “Don’t you think you’ve had enough? Not on my watch, mister. Put on your pants. What would your mother think?”
- Uncle Sam Speaks - Happy Independence Day from the worst pez dispenser ever. I don’t even get any candy. What a rip.
- Putting on the Ritz - You know what, I’m drawing a blank. How this relates to July 4th, I’ll never know.
- Turtle on the Run - “I love America! I love America! I love Tab Energy! I love America!”
- Sally Sparkles - “Daddy, I know you boy me this dress for the holidays, but is it supposed to do this?”
- Peek-a-boo Pete - It’s not a really party until he shows up.
- Good Times- That’s perverted and disgusting. You ought to be ashamed. Is it my turn yet?
Want more? You’re sick and I love that about you. Ok, here you go.

The latest and greatest of Macromedia (now Adobe) Flash brings the ability to interact with another human being – at least on-line - to the masses. By incorporating video, anyone can create animated shorts, marketing campaigns, etc. that allow the user to choose and watch the person’s response.
Here are six such projects that stand out in my eyes. They are creative, targeted, hilarious, suggestive and addictive with subjects ranging from eating anything and gum cults to bodily grooming (read my review), brushing teeth and a bartender’s sage advice. And let’s not forget Pjotro: The Man with the Musical Suit. These projects engage their target viewers while entertaining and feeding into the viral nature of the larger audience.
I know there are many more of these Flash video campaigns out there, so if you come across one that is definitely worth mentioning, please let me know. I’ll either include the site listing (with a finder’s credit) in a future compilation post or do an in-depth critique (see Pointroll and Bridezilla). Enjoy.

If you’ve never worked in Flash, you’ll probably just enjoy this animated piece for its entertainment value. But for all those Flash guys and gals out there, including myself, I’d consider “Animator vs. Animation” a classic. I found myself laughing out loud as well as impressed by its creativity.
Unlike my previous critiques, which have been detailed, witty, and a piece of art in and of itself (that’s a joke, son), I’m keeping this post short and sweet for one reason - I don’t want to ruin it for any of the Flash fanatics. See for yourself.

A few years back, I discovered the Drum Machine by Tokyo Plastic. As with most work day distractions, it came to me through an e-mail chain. And like most viewers, I was floored. The link remained at the top of my favorites list and I visited it a little too frequently. But like most things in life, it faded away into the background noise of reality.
Then, like a shining light from above, I casually come across a post about the recent work from Tokyo Plastic. All of that excitement and lack of motivation at work came down upon me in a flood of drums, dogs, and evil flowers.
Their quality, creativity and timing are truly outstanding. Little Fella, the latest animation from Tokyo Plastic, is no exception. Enjoy.

Pretty cool, huh?
Thank you, Scaramouch and YesButNoButYes, for breathing life back into this sluggish corporate soul.
